Samuel Moyer
Palm (b:7/12/1882) and Florence
Isabel Rohrbach (b:5/3/1884) were married on May 15, 1902 in Reading, PA
at the young ages of 19 and 18. They had four children. William Henry (b:10/27/1903),
Sarah Isabel (b:5/28/1905), Samuel M. Jr. (b:1/31/1909),
and Mary Louise (b:5/12/1914). Moyer was the maiden name of Samuel senior's
mother Lydia.
William Henry (called Henry and Hank) went to Cornell University to become
an engineer, Sarah went to nursing school in Allentown, PA, Sam did not
go to college, and Mary, although accepted by Hood College, fell in love
and did not enroll. William was probably named after his paternal grandfather.

On the left is a picture of Florence with
her daughters Mary (my mother) and Sarah (my aunt) around 1918 or
1919. I am guessing at the year because it looks like Mary might be
about 4 or 5 years old and Sarah about 13 or 14. The background is
a row of the garages. It could be their Paxtang backyard because the
garages were on an alley behind the houses. On the right Florence is in an earlier picture with her sons Henry and Sam and with her daughter Sarah.
The 1890 census records were all destroyed. The 1900 census for Reading, PA shows my grandfather living at 1124 Cotton Street with his father, mother, and a border named Charles Briel who was a day laborer aged 33. 18 year-old Sam was a clerk at the telegraph office. Notice the month and year of their births - great grandfather William September 1856 - great grandmother Lidia/Lydia June 1859 - granddad Sam July 1882.
