Both were teachers so they had
developed the habit of taking trips during the summer months. Polly can
remember a super auto trip across the United States in 1950.
Each summer during the 2nd World War (1941-1945) they went to Bennington, VT. Vincent and Ruth bought a piece of land on a hillside that overlooked
the town. Ruth's sister, Louise, went with them. Louise helped Vincent
build a small frame house.
The spreadsheet at the left shows they started taking bigger trips after
their daughters were married.
Vince memorialized the 1968 trip when he assembled all the trip's picture
slides in trays, recorded his commentary on tape, and played the tape
as family and friends viewed the slides that were automatically advanced
by a timer on a slide projector.
Years later their grandson, Brad, converted
this to a video tape presentation. Poor Vince could not recall the trip
when he watched the video.
