1910 Census for 3039 West Gordon Street (census enumerator listed Grace R for Ruth, Emma B for Bertha, and Louisa for Clara Louise) indicated Charles was a carpenter. Bertha was listed as born in the state of Delaware. Dorothy should have been listed as age 10.![]() 1920 Census for 3039 West Gordon Street (Charles and Bertha at bottom of a page and the children at the top of the next page). Dorothy was a typist at a high school. Charles was still a carpenter. Louise was probably getting her teaching certificate at Normal School because her occupation was listed as NONE. The census was taken on 1/19/1920 before their birthdays 1/27, 11/9, and 6/29. ![]() ![]() 1930 Census - Ruth and Louise lived with their aunt Anna. Rent was $50 per month. The street address was missing on census page 12A. Maybe some old records from where Louise (Cooke) and Ruth (Stetson) worked can reveal what it was. Both taught in junior high schools at that time. Their aunt was a sales lady at a department store. The census was taken on 4/12/1930 (after Louise's birthday and prior to Ruth's) hence the age difference is 8. ![]() The map on the right shows the area being listed when the census worker neglected to mark their address. Three streets (marked in blue, purple, and red) were listed for other names on page 12A. They must have been living on one of four streets (Marion, Henley, Keyser, or W. Manheim inside the black oval area). 1940 census Return to Andrews Avenue All are buried at Whitemarsh Memorial Park. |
