Track Star
Like his Uncle Bill, Bob was a good pole vaulter in track.

He was also on two relay teams. He ran in the half mile and mile relay races because he had good times in the races of 220 yards and 440 yards.

On the left is a picture of the championship relay team. It shows Don Evons, Jerry Holsher, brother Bob, and Bill Carpenter.

In 2010 the team was honored at an alumni dinner. Bob died in 2003 so I was invited to accept the award for him. Bob's friend, Bill Carpenter, also could not attend because he was caring for his wife in Montana who had stage 4 cancer at that time.

Football Star
Bob was selected to play on the Delaware County North All Star team as the quarterback. Team picture Bill Carpenter (the fullback) was also selected but was not allowed to play by West Point rules. He went on to be a star at West Point as the "lonesome end" for Red Blaik. Bill also was a hero in the Vietnam War and progressed to the rank of Lieutenant General before he retired.

The blue and gold of Springfield (Delco) High School won six games (see green color code in schedule) and lost three (see red).

Above is the 6-3 record for his senior year. Our local newspaper had a great article about his final game. Bob played his best game ever in his final high school game. He was #18. Bill Carpenter is on the right in this picture.

Bob went on to star in football after high school.
Baseball and Golf Talent

He was a scratch golfer for a number of years.
