Yarnall Properties - shaded blue in map below
The Yarnalls
owned almost 15% of Edgmont in 1848. Original landowner, Philip (1661-1734), and
his son Thomas (1705-1764) both lived in Edgmont. Thomas' grandchildren (names are bold in next paragraph) were owners
of the three blue land areas in the lower-right part of this map. The owners in the left half of the Edgmont map are other lines
from Philip. Thomas' 6 brothers (John, Philip, Job, Benjamin, Nathan,
and Samuel) are in that branch of the Yarnall tree. You need to scroll down to see the land of Thomas's grandchildren. Pause your cursor on the Caleb Jr. land parcel. Philip to Thomas - the Ancestral Path - it splits at Job Sr and Caleb Sr
Thomas had four sons - William H (b:1737), Job
Sr. (b:1742), Caleb Sr.
(b:1744), and Joseph (b:1747). Only the Job Sr.
and Caleb Sr. lines have some interest to me because they flow to me. Two sons of William named William
H Jr (b:1763) and Enoch owned land in Edgmont in 1848 (lower right).
John (b:1776), the oldest son of Caleb Sr.,
lived in Edgmont until he died in 1843. John's younger brother, Caleb
Jr. (b:1782) is marked on the 1848 map as an owner of land in Edgmont. Caleb Jr. probably inherited that land from
his brother John. Caleb Jr. was the executor of John's will. Paternal Ancestral Path Through Job Sr via Job Jr and Eber? Job Sr. went to Middletown at some
point because records indicate he died there. Job
Sr. died when his son Job Jr. was only 7 years old. Job Jr could have been
taken in by his uncle William H (brother of Job Sr). There are no land transfers,
no tax records, no maps, and too few census indicators for Job Sr. and Job Jr.
to help anyone follow that part of our line. Job Jr. had three sons, Mahlon (b:1804),
Eber (b:1811), and Norris L (b:1812). Norris L. first appeared in the Aston 1840
census. All three appeared in 1850 census listings that indicated they were located
in Middletown, Concord, and Middletown respectively. My grandfather's obituary
mentioned Norris L. as the uncle of my great grandfather, William H. Yarnall.
That means either Mahlon or Eber was the father of William H. The children that
Mahlon and Eber had with their wives do not trace to our line. It raises the possibility
that one of them became a father out of wedlock. Maternal Ancestral Path Through Caleb Sr via John and Eliza? Caleb Sr. also went to Middletown
before he died. He had 4 sons and 2 daughters. Sons were John
(b:1776), Owen, Caleb Jr., and Thomas. Daughters were Agnes (b:1781) and Phoebe. John was the father of Eliza
(b:1819). Both father and daughter died in April 1843. There is a strong possibility
that Eliza might have been the woman who had a son (my great grandfather William H) in 1840 with one of her cousins
- Mahlon or Eber. That child was under the care of Agnes Yarnall Webster (John's
sister) in the 1850 census of Middletown. View decision chart Notice the bold information in the
