![]() This is a branch of the Yarnall family tree. We can trace back where these ancestors lived. Florence Isabel Rohrbach married Sam in 1902. One of their four children, Mary Louise, was born in 1914. She married Thomas V Yarnall in 1931. |
Click on "Came to America" to see what counties Pennsylvania had when Hans Georg Rohrbach came from Germany. Prior to his birth, the area where he lived was constantly experiencing the turmoil of war between Germany and France. During the "War of the Grand Alliance" (1689–97), French troops pillaged the Rheinland-Palatinate, forcing many Germans to flee. The War of the Palatinate (as it was called in Germany), also called the "War of Augsburg", began in 1688 as Louis XIV took claim of the Rheinland-Palatinate and major cities were devastated. People living in that area saw ads by William Penn during the 1680s about his holy experiment in America. Escape from the turmoil seemed possible. Lutherans were few in this largely Catholic area of Germany. At age 25, Hans Georg Rohrbach (called George) decided to flee from Germany. He traveled the Rhine River valley to board a ship named John and William that sailed from Rotterdam. He arrived on October 17, 1732 and settled in the Hereford, PA area. That was in Philadelphia County at that time. Berks County was not formed until 1752 from parts of Lancaster and Philadelphia counties. Two books were compiled that provide comprehensive information about the Rohrbach name. In 1941 by Jacob H. Rohrbach and in 1977 by Lewis B. Rohrbaugh. Click here to see why I am using the name in the 1977 book. George was a carpenter and a farmer. Lorenz (his son) was a farmer. Johann George (his grandson) was a blacksmith. Elias (his great grandson) was a carpenter. We do not know Henry's occupation, but he was briefly a Union soldier at the end of the Civil War. |
