Vincent's Notes
Back
Salvatore's Second Wife
Salvatore's second marriage was to Carlotta Plantulli. Salvatore's sister, Petrina, also married a second time. It was to Frank Plantulli. So a brother and sister of one family married a sister and brother of another family! Once Vincent graduated from college with a mechanical engineering degree from Drexel, he got married, and rarely was involved with his father and stepbrothers and stepsister.
Vincent's Sister
Clara was called Aunt Clare by Vincent's daughters Polly and Carolyn. Clara worked as a housekeeper for George Scurria Sr. who married Marguerite Jacobs. Clara had gone to live in the household of cousin Marguerite's parents and they grew up together almost as sisters with a 14 year age difference. George and Marguerite had two sons, George Jr. (b: 11/22/1913) and Norman (b: 11/9/1915).
Vincent's Only Nephew
After Marguerite died, George Sr. married Clara (his former housekeeper). She was 16 years younger than George Sr. (b: 1889). They had one son, Robert. They lived in the Germantown section of Philadelphia.
Norman and George Jr.
Norman graduated from a merchant marine school in Annapolis. In 1941 he was assigned to spot German subs from dirigibles along the Atlantic coast. He had a 25 year career in the US Navy. When he retired from the military he taught at Rutgers University. He and his wife Charlotte had two sons (Jim and Mils) and a daughter (Susan). George Jr. went to Temple University and after graduation he worked for the Penn Fruit Company (a local grocery chain). He and his wife Anne had one son and two daughters.
