He started kindergarten in Richmond, VA in 1968.

He completed his entire college preparatory education in the Cherry Hill, NJ school system (Stockton Elementary School, Beck Middle School, and Cherry Hill East High School). He graduated in 1981. His yearbook picture is below.


Junior high school activities were wrestling, indoor street hockey, theater, track and field, weightlifting, and broadcasting.

His high school activities were tennis (2nd team), trombone (marching band, orchestra, and jazz band), and bass guitar (jazz band and rock group).
Mechanical drawing and building trade classes led to his decision to major in Architecture at college.
College
He attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN. It was a five year major in architecture. He graduated Cum Laude in 1986 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. Steve earned admission to two honor societies and received the Malcolm Rice Achievement award from the school of architecture. He was co-manager/player of the 1984-85 all-sport intramural champions HJ-4 Buccaneers. He also participated in the Navigators on-campus ministry and attended Calvary Southern Baptist church.
