My brother and I each paid $85 for our round of golf in 1984 in this beautiful setting. I tried a year in advance to get a tee time. We got tee times at other courses, but none at Pebble Beach.
The first morning we went over to just look at the course. We had breakfast overlooking the practice putting green. After breakfast, I decided to go up to the starter to see if there were any cancellations.
As I walked up the hill to the pro shop, I got a crazy thought. I will go in and announce that the Yarnall twosome was ready to pay the fee and play. The man at the counter was sorry and felt there might have been a mistake made by someone as I told him that I called to make the reservation about a year ago. He said he would squeeze us in with a twosome in about an hour.
I ran down the hill and told Bill to get our shoes and clubs. What a wonderful lucky break!
