These quotes are part of an Internet summary of the 1860 election results. The summary seems to be inaccurate in a number of ways. Look at my parenthetical comments.
"18 free states went for Lincoln." (correct - see those in red)
"1 free state went for Douglas." (looks like 2 in blue)
"All slave states chose Breckenridge." (only 9 of 11 did - he won in 2 free states (Maryland and Delaware) - see purple)
"John Bell won 3 free states." (see yellow - 1 free (Kentucky) and 2 slave states)
