Ruth lived at 3039 West Gordon Street in Philadelphia, PA when she was attending William Penn High School for girls at 1501 Wallace Street in Philadelphia, PA. She graduated from there in 1923. She was a very active student and very bright. She attended a number of the class reunions and kept notes about how many classmates attended along with where the reunions were held. The last one she attended was in 1977. Here is her yearbook picture along with comments and a poem about her from page 25 of the yearbook. Each classmate picture had a poem and comments about the student. ![]() Ruth went on to a Normal School (teachers college) at 13th and Spring Garden Streets in Philadelphia, PA where she obtained her teaching certificate by passing rigorous school boards (examinations) after four years of study. She taught home economics subjects like sewing and cooking at Stetson Junior High and at Cooke Junior High in Philadelphia, PA during her career. Perhaps she met Vincent Cheverelli in 1929 because we have a neat picture of them that year. She got married in 1930 and they had three daughters. In 1932 she earned her BS in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. We have some pictures of her when she visited with us at 148 Weston Drive in Cherry Hill, NJ. |

The map on the left shows Ruth's world. "A" marks her first home with Vincent, "B" marks her next home with Vincent, and "C" marks their retirement home. The map on the right shows where 7425 Andrews Avenue (black square near Renovo and Sterling Streets) is. It was in very poor condition in June of 2012. Ruth's first daughter, Claire, was born in 1932 and died in 1933. Claire was buried in Northwood Cemetery on January 5, 1934. Her plot is marked with a black heart in the map on the right. Her little lamb grave marker was no longer there as of June of 2012. Her grave is plot 94 in row J of the Willow Section. Ruth's sister Louise's house was at 7019 Andrews Avenue. It is marked with a red dot on the map. Polly (Claire's sister and my wife) and I could have walked over to look at Claire's grave from there easily when we visited Polly's aunt Louise if I had known about this. |
