Polly's Grade Schools

Polly went to the Rowen Elementary School from Kindergarten through 5th grade.	Polly lived where the tiny red dot is. She walked to and from her home and her school twice a day (once for lunch). Rowen Elementary School was at 6841 N 19th St. Philadelphia, PA 19126 and is marked by the black and yellow marker.	This is above the front door.
Polly went to the Glenside Elementary School for the sixth grade only in 1946.	Polly lived where the purple marker is. The red star shows where the Glenside Elementary School was.	On October 11, 1907, the Cheltenham school district purchased land from George and Eleanor Heist, Jr. This small piece of land, slightly over an acre, was located on Easton Road just north of Springhouse Lane and cost $4,000. Anticipating the opening of the new Glenside School in September 1908, the Audenried School was closed in June. Unfortunately construction problems developed necessitating the children to attend classes in the Glenside Baptist Church at Easton Road and Wesley Avenue until the Glenside Elementary School was ready for classes in September 1909. The school served the community for 46 school years (09-10 through 55-56) before it closed its doors in June 1956.
