Here are two pictures of heavy artillery fortifications. The first shows the kind
of gun to which William H Yarnall might have been assigned. The second shows a sample of type
of site used to protect Washington DC. Some of these types of guns were moved
by train and horse-drawn devices to use in field battles.
These pictures are of men from the Massachusettes HA. W H Yarnall was with the
Pennsylvania HA.
