During World War I General Deakyne looked up the d’Acquigny estate and had tea with the family. General DeaKyne's relatives thought the family was of Norman extraction from the vicinage of D’Acquigny in France.

The village of his birth was named in honor of his family. He was the son of Napoleon B. and Mary A. (David) Deakyne. They were a different branch of the family tree from Ruth's branch.
Prior to the Nottingham origin, there are two theories about an earlier origin. Was it the blue or the red spot? Was it Aachen, Germany or D'Acquigny, France?

They settled in England about the time of the Norman invasion (11th century). Some Deakyne family members thought the family originated in Aachen, Germany and migrated to Nottingham, England. Others claimed the family originated in D’Acquigny.
